USS Harry S. Truman CSG Departs on 2018 Deployment

By Rear Admiral Roy J. Kelley
Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic

As we bid safe voyage to the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) today, their deployment serves as yet another example of the Navy’s readiness to defend our nation and our commitment to providing unequalled power projection and maritime security around the globe.

This deployment serves as the culmination of hard work and rigorous training to support maritime security operations around the globe. The HST CSG units have operated and trained extensively at sea over the past several months, expertly navigating training scenarios of increasing difficulty and complexity.

The ship and air wing’s warfighting proficiency have unceasingly increased throughout the pre-deployment work-up cycle and have proven that they are fully integrated and ready to carry out sustained combat operations from the sea. I have the utmost confidence that the crew of the HST CSG will continue to etch their names into an already rich naval legacy and history of success.

Today, the crew bids farewell to loved ones and proudly man the rails while departing Naval Station Norfolk and their air stations in Virginia Beach, Jacksonville and Whidbey Island, once again to aid our nation and its allies. I’d like to thank all of the friends, family, and loved ones that support our Sailors and endure the necessary sacrifices they make to support the world’s greatest Navy.

And to the Sailors of the HST CSG, you have my thoughts and prayers for a safe deployment and my eternal appreciation for your service and sacrifice to our grateful nation.
