The decision to stay in the current retirement system or opt-in to the Blended Retirement System, a modernized retirement system, is an important and irrevocable decision that eligible Sailors must make based on their own individual circumstances.

In fact, it’s probably the most important financial decision in their naval careers. So, it’s important for all Sailors – either as leaders today, or as leaders tomorrow – to understand the changes that will impact retirement in the future.

Even though eligible Sailors don’t have to make the decision to opt-in until January 1, 2018, they should take advantage of training and other resources – like the below videos released by the Department of Defense. See how the legacy ‘high-3’ and the new Blended Retirement System compare in the first four years of service, at mid-career and at retirement.
